So Cal Composer, Colin Sprigg
SELECTED FOR THE SOFIA SYMPHONIC SUMMIT
Composer, Colin Sprigg, has been selected to appear as one of 10 resident composers at the 2020 Sofia Symphonic Summit to be held in Sofia, Bulgaria, in August of 2020. Sprigg’s original music will be performed by the Bulgarian National Symphony, the Sofia Philharmonic.
As a resident composer, Sprigg will be paired with a guest conductor to work in tandem on his original piece with the Sofia Philharmonic in preparation for a public concert at the culturally significant Bulgarian Concert Hall. Accepted composers have the option of writing a new piece for the Sofia Philharmonic, or to work on an existing piece. Sprigg has chosen to continue his focus on a work he’s named The Owens Valley about the History of Los Angeles, California, and historical civic figure William Mulholland. Sprigg says, “The Owens Valley is a movement from my symphony called The Mulholland Suite for Orchestra, influenced in part by the music of Aaron Copland.”
During the visit Sprigg will give presentations about his work, take composition lessons with distinguished guest composers, take various master classes, and of course find time to explore the famous historical city of Sofia.
