Venice Rising follows a personal journey of change. The music begins quietly, moves through moments of tension and challenge, and gradually opens into a feeling of clarity and light. While the piece is inspired by the idea of Venice, it is not about one specific place. Instead, it reflects the experience of stepping into something unknown, facing difficulty, and finding a way forward.
The work was originally written in 2024 as a chamber piece called Opus 1: Odyssey for my youth orchestra. It was later expanded and reworked for full symphony. As the music grew, so did its meaning. In 2025, I was invited to bring the piece to the Veneto Arts and Music Summit, with the opportunity for a performance in Venice. Although I had not yet visited the city, the idea of that journey—both musical and personal—began to shape the piece. Venice Rising is the result: a reimagined version of the original work, shaped by anticipation, long-held dreams, and the excitement of sharing this music in Venice for the first time.
